Jasmine’s story

“Just do it, just give it a go. Whether it’s one person or a tribe of people you’re still doing it for the right reasons.”

Last year, Jasmine and her family and friends took on their own Walk of Light walking with a group of people in their local park.

“One of the main reasons we took part was the date, it marked me being four years in remission from acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL). Blood Cancer UK helped me when I was going through my treatment with information and support. And I know that future treatment advancements won’t be possible without the vital fundraising that’s needed into blood cancer research.

I invited everyone on my friends list on Facebook, the word spread, and we got a good turnout. During the walk, everyone was talking about their experiences or remembering someone who’d sadly died. Everyone was there for different reasons, there was a lot to talk about and a big sense of community.

It was very easy to organise, and I would highly recommend anybody else taking on their own Walk of Light in their local areas if they can’t make the Birmingham one.”
