What is Walk of Light for?
On 29th March 2025, thousands of people across the country will be taking on their own Walk of Light to raise funds for vital blood cancer research. As the sun sets, we will walk together to shine a light on blood cancer. Survival for people with blood cancer in the UK is being overshadowed by similar nations and needless lives are being lost. To help shine a light on the third largest cancer killer we're asking you - our community - to come together on 29th March and take on your own Walk of Light.
We walk to shine a light on the strength of our community and what we can achieve when we come together. We walk to bring blood cancer out of the shadows. We walk to light the path for a brighter future for people living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and all blood cancers.
Because together we can be the generation to beat blood cancer.
How does it work?
Once you’ve signed up, choose your location and your route to take on your own Walk of Light. This could be around your local park, up a local hill or to a special place that means something to you. You can walk any distance that suits you.
Next, invite your family and friends to join you (and make sure they register so they can get their t-shirt, medal and beanie hat rewards). Pick out your lights to wear or hold and walk together with thousands of others across the country as the sun sets on 29th March.
I can’t take part on 29th March, can I take part on another day?
Yes, absolutely! Most people will be taking on their own Walk of Light on 29th March 2025 but if you can’t do it then, we’d still love for you to walk at a time that’s right for you. Please just let us know by emailing hello@bloodcancer.org.uk so we can send your medal after this date (once you’ve raised £100).
Is anyone in my area taking part? Are there any walks in the XX area?
If you live near Birmingham, we’d love you to join us at Walk of Light Birmingham and walk with others affected by blood cancer in Cannon Hill Park on 29th March – find out more and sign up here. This is the only charity-organised Walk of Light this year.
Please ask your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to get involved – the more the merrier! You can also find out what other people in our community are doing and if they’re local to you on the Walk of Light Facebook group.
For safety reasons, Blood Cancer UK can’t facilitate participants meeting up together and please carefully consider your safety if you arrange to meet others.
Is there a registration fee?
No, it’s free to sign up. However, you can help us cover our costs and kick start your fundraising by adding your first donation to your fundraising page. Simply register by clicking ‘Sign up’ to set up your JustGiving page.
Raising money
How do I raise money?
Once you sign up your fundraising page will be created and any donations collected on your page will be transferred automatically to Blood Cancer UK. The best way to raise money is to share your page with friends and family so they can donate to your Walk of Light. We’ll be sending you some of our other top tips when you sign up so that we can raise more to beat blood cancer.
You can still collect money offline and add this to your page.
How do I update my fundraising target?
To update your fundraising target, go to walkoflight.bloodcancer.org.uk, login and click on ‘My Page’. Click on ‘Edit page’ in the top of your screen and here you can edit your target.
How do I pay in offline sponsorship (eg cheques, cash)?
You can download a sponsorship form from the Resources page to collect any offline donations. Once you’ve collected all donations, you can pay this in by contacting our Supporter Relations Team: email hello@bloodcancer.org.uk or call 0808 2080 888.
How can I add my offline fundraising (e.g. cash, cheques) to my JustGiving page?
Once you've signed up, go to walkoflight.bloodcancer.org.uk, login and click on ‘My Page’. Click on ‘Edit page’ and underneath your story you can input your ‘Total offline amount’. Read this guide for further information on how to add offline fundraising to your JustGiving page.
Do I need to raise a minimum amount?
No, there is no minimum required fundraising target for this event. We just ask you pledge to raise as much as you can for Blood Cancer UK. To help you raise as much as possible, we’ll support you by sending you a Walk of Light t shirt if you raise £50, a medal if you raise £100 and a Walk of Light beanie hat if you raise £150.
Your rewards
I’ve raised £50, when will I get my t shirt?
T shirts will be sent out monthly from the end of January to everyone who’s raised £50 so you’ll get yours in time for your Walk of Light. If you can’t wait, visit our online shop and check out our range of clothing.
I’ve raised £100, when will I get my medal?
Medals will be sent out at the end of April to everyone who’s raised £100.
I’ve raised £150, when will I get my beanie hat?
Beanie hats will be sent out monthly from the end of January to everyone who’s raised £150 so you’ll get yours in time for your Walk of Light. If you can’t wait, visit our online shop and check out our range of clothing.
Child participants
Do my children need to register?
No, your children don’t need to register. However, if you’re taking part with children, please email hello@bloodcancer.org.uk and let us know how many are taking part, their ages for their t-shirt size and a link to your fundraising page. We can send t-shirts and medals to children once their registered adult has raised £50/£100.
Can my child/children get a t-shirt?
Yes, once your fundraising page has reached £50 you can request a kids’ t-shirt to be sent alongside your adult t-shirt for your child/children for free. Please contact our Supporter Relations Team by emailing hello@bloodcancer.org.uk and include a link to your fundraising page and the child’s age for the t-shirt size.
Can my child/children get a medal?
Yes, once your fundraising page has reached £100 you can request a medal to be sent alongside your medal in April for your child/children for free. Please contact our Supporter Relations Team by emailing hello@bloodcancer.org.uk and include a link to your fundraising page.
Can my child/children get a beanie hat?
I’m sorry but beanie hats are adult sized only and aren’t available for children. Visit our online shop to check out our range of clothing for children.
Participating as a team
Can I take part in a team?
Yes, once you sign up you can create or join a team fundraising page. Watch this video on how to create and join a team.
You’ll need a team name and team fundraising target to get started. When others sign up, they can choose to join your team by typing in the same team name, this will make sure you are all part of the same team and your pages are together.
We ask that every team member signs up individually on our webpage so that we have your t-shirt size and contact details to send your rewards.
I’m sharing a fundraising page, how do I get a t-shirt?
If you’re sharing a fundraising page, please ask your group leader (the person who set up the fundraising page) to let us know the name, t-shirt size and contact details (including address) of everyone who’s sharing their fundraising page by emailing hello@bloodcancer.org.uk .
This is so we can keep track of how much you've all raised to send out your t-shirts, medals and beanie hats once you hit your fundraising targets (raise £50 each to get your t-shirt, raise £100 each to get your medal and raise £150 each to get your beanie hat). Each person must hit these fundraising targets to get their rewards.
Can my company take part in Walk of Light?
Absolutely! If you’re looking to organise a charity fundraising event as part of your corporate philanthropy work then Walk of Light is a great way to do this.
The event is flexible, so people of all fitness levels can take part and virtual events are a great way to build relationships between teams.

About your walk
How far should I walk?
You’re welcome to choose a distance and a route that works for you – we recommend choosing a distance that’s a challenge without being too complex, given it’s likely to be dark by the time you finish. We’d suggest a 5km walk is the perfect distance for those without any mobility or health restrictions. Every walk distance matters, thank you for taking part.
Do I have to walk at sunset/at night?
No, you can walk at any time that suits you. We absolutely want everyone taking part in this walk to do so safely and wouldn’t want anyone to walk at night or walk alone at night if they don’t feel safe to do so.
